Research Project Nirgun Bhakti in Eastern India: Ideology, Protest and Identity-study of the Mayamara Sub-sect of Assam
About:Dambarudhar Nath had been a professor of history at Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh (1996-2016) and he was Srimanta Sankardeva chair professor at Tezpur Central University, Tezpur. He was also a professor at Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva chair on Religion and Culture in Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh.
His area of interest is the making of religion and society of North East India, the history of Nathpaantha, and the social base of Bhakti Movement in north India. Some of his publications are Religious Traditions and Social Practices in Assam, 2016; Satra Society and Culture, 2014; Religion and Society in North East India, 2012; The Majuli Island: Society, Economy and Culture, 2009; History of the Koch Kingdome, 1989. He has written more than fifty papers in both English and Assamese on the various aspects of the history and culture of North East India.
He was a member of Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi; a life member of Indian History Congress; North East India History Association; Assam Research Society.
Presently he is a Fellow at IIAS, Shimla and working On The Nirguna Bhakti in Eastern India which tries to investigate revolutionary aspect of Bhakti movement in North East India.
