History of Food in Northeast India: Mizoram since Pre-colonial Times.

Jagdish Lal Dawar retired as Professor of History from Department of History & Ethnography ( now rechristened as department of History & Archeology), School of Social Sciences, Mizoram University, Aizawl (Mizoram) after attaining the age of superannuation on 31st October, 2015. He holds a PhD in Intellectual History of Modern India from Centre for Historical Studies, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and his research interests are in Literature and History, Intellectual and cultural History of North-East India, Environmental History of North-East India. He was one of the founder faculty members of the Department of History, Arunachal University, Itanagar ( now rechristened as Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar). Subsequently he was invited by the Vice-Chancellor of Mizoram University, Aizawl ( a central University) to set up the department of History & Ethnography, Mizoram University from where he retired in 2015. He was the founder head of the department of History & Ethnography and also Dean, School of Social Sciences, Mizoram University from 2004 to 2007. He was visiting Fellow/scholar at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and History,Rachel Carson Center for Environment and History, Ludwig Maximilians Universitat, Munchen, Germany from 1 June 2011 until 31 July, 2011. (two months). A number of scholar were awarded PhD under his supervision both in Arunchal University as well as Mizoram University. He has presented papers in various conferences in India and abroad. Besides one book Cultural Identity of Tribes of Northeast India: Movement for CulturalIdentity among the Adis of Arunachal Pradesh, New Delhi, 2003 and a number of papers published in various journals and as chapters in edited Books, He was awarded two major research from University Grants commission, New Delhi. and one from Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi. These projects were related to the cultural history of north-east India. At the Institute He works on a project ‘Social History of Food in North-East India: Mizoram since pre-colonial times.’
