Vijaya Shankar Varma, National Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla is Distinguished Professor of Philosophy of Science, Ambedkar University Delhi. He is working on a translation and commentary on the 9th c. manuscript in the collection of the Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library, Patna titled “Treatise on the Sun’s Rays” by the Arab philosopher-scientist Abu Yusuf Yaqub ibn Ishaq al-Kindi.

He was awarded The World Academy of Science, Regional Prize for the "Development of Scientific Educational Material" in 2015. He was Advisor Planning and Director Campus Development at Ambedkar University Delhi from 2008-2016; Dean Planning and Professor of Physics at the University of Delhi and co-ordinated the participation of the Delhi University Group in the Hoshangabad Science Teaching Programme (HSTP). His research interests range from particle physics, deterministic chaos, and population dynamics to computer simulations.
