About: <\/strong>Prof. Hitendra K Patel teaches at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata in the Department of History. He has a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.\u00a0 His range of interests centres on\u00a0the intellectual, social and political history of colonial and post colonial India.\u00a0He has worked on the history of communal divide, Hindu nationalism, political mobilization during the Gandhian phase, peasant movements and leaders, representations of icons and events in literature, 1857, revolutionary movements and related themes. He has also worked on Gandhi, dalit history, \u2018Hindustanis\u2019 (Hindi speaking people) of Calcutta, popular Hindi films, Socialist leaders and the tribal history.<\/p>\n

His major publications include\u00a0Communalism and the Intelligentsia in Bihar 1870-1930\u00a0<\/i>(Orient BlackSwan, Delhi, 2011),\u00a0Khudiram Bose: \u00a0Revolutionary Extraordinaire<\/i>\u00a0(Publication Division, Delhi, 2008)\u00a0[Hindi expanded edition was published as\u00a0Khudiram Bose: Ek Apratim Krantikari<\/i>\u00a0, 2011], \u00a01857: Bharat ka Pahla Mukti Sangharsha<\/i>\u00a0(eds). He has contributed more than fifty research articles in Hindi, English and Bengali.<\/p>\n

He is also a Hindi novelist (two novels published \u2013Haaril<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Chirkut<\/i>) and a literary critic.
