Research Project ‘Ancient Indian Economic Philosophy: A study of Chankaya and Shukaracharya’
About:Dr. Nidhi Sharma joined IIAS Shimla as Fellow Designate on 18.09.2023. Prof. Sharma is a Professor of Economics at Banaras Hindu University.Before joining BHU she has served at various institutions such as D.N.College Meerut, AKP College Hapur, Government College Bageshwar, Government College Berinag and S.D.College Ghaziabad.
Prof. Sharma has completed her Graduation and Post Graduation from MMH College, affiliated to Meerut University, was awarded UGC JRF and completed her Ph.D from Kumaun University,Nainital. She has wide and long experience of about 32 years of teaching and research. Till now she has guided 23 Ph.D scholars. She has also vast administrative experience at her institution. Prof. Sharma has also been Coordinator of Centre for Women’s Studies and Development,BHU as well as Coordinator of MA Course of Energy Economics, Department of Economics, BHU. Her research interest area is International Economics, Regional Economics, Labour Economics and Energy Economics.
Prof. Sharma has authored 3 books, 40 Research articles in reputed Journals and has contributed some Research papers in edited books. She has completed 01 Minor Project sponsored by UGC, 01Major Project sponsored by UGC and 01 Major project is undergoing,sponsored by Institute of Eminence, BHU. She has been recipient of prestigious Research Award(2014-16) of UGC.
She is Executive member in Indian Society of Labour Economics(ISLE) and The Indian Econometric Society(TIES).She is life member of Indian Economic Association, UPUEA and Indian Political Science Association.
In IIAS Prof. Sharma is keen to work upon ‘Ancient Indian Economic Philosophy: A study of Chankaya and Shukaracharya’. She considers that whole concepts of Economic prosperity and Economic principles are tested on the basis of parameters set by Western world.Since ancient times Bharat has been the mother of sustainable materialistic prosperity combined with harmonious cultural value system.It is very necessary to explore the economic philosophy propounded by our great thinkers such as Chankaya and Shukaracharya.
