Research Project From Mind to Supermind: In Search of a Metaphysics of Consciousness
About: Professor Ramesh Chandra Pradhan has joined IIAS, Shimla as a National Fellow and is working on the project: “ From Mind to Supermind: In Search of a Metaphysics of Consciousness”. The project aims at exploring the transcendental dimensions of human consciousness and establishing a metaphysical theory of consciousness.Professor Pradhan studied at Banaras Hindu University for his M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy. He had post-doctoral studies at the University of Oxford as a Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellow during 1990-91. He taught at Utkal Uinversity, Bhubaneswar and Karanataka University, Dharwad before joining the University of Hyderabad in 1987 where he was Professor since 1998. He was the Head of the Department of Philosophy during 2004-2007. He has been in the University of Hyderabad till his retirement in 2015.He was the Member-Secretary of the Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi during 2000-2003.Professor Pradhan has a distinguished academic career spanning over forty years during which he has guided research for a number of students. He has attended a number of seminars and conferences both in India and abroad. He has written a number of books and contributed many papers to philosophy journals and anthologies. His books are Language and Experience: An Interpretation of the Later Philosophy of Wittgenstein, Truth, Meaning and Understanding: Essays in Philosophical Semantics, Philosophy of Meaning and Representation, The Great Mirror: An Essay on Wittgenstein’s Tractatus, Language, Reality and Transcendence: An Essay on the Main Strands of Wittgenstein’s Later Philosophy , Metaphysics, and Metaphysics Vs. Metaphysics. He has also edited many volumes in philosophyProfessor Pradhan specializes in Wittgenstein, Philosophy of Language , Philosophy of Mind and Metaphysics.
