Research Project Women Singers of Western Rajasthan: Art, Patronage, and Community Life.
About: Dr. Sumit is a historian and currently working as a research fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. She proposes to examine a Post Doctoral Fellowship on ‘Women Singers of Western Rajasthan: Art, Patronage, and Community Life. She did her Ph. D on “Occupational Groups, Organization of Production and Pattern of Textile Production in the Royal Karkhanas of the Jaipur Rulers during the Eighteenth Century” from IGNOU, New Delhi. She is Familiar with languages like English, Hindi, Urdu, and Rajasthani. Before joining IIAS, Shimla, she worked with Maharaja Man Singh Pustak Prakash Research Centre, Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur, Rajasthan for the past four years. It is a storehouse of archived and non-archived published and unpublished literature and manuscripts which helps in rediscovering the history and cultural heritage of Rajasthan. Dr Sumit is well versed with the Rajasthani manuscripts and skilled in proof-editing, writing journals, and research papers. She has been actively presenting research papers that dealt with social, economic, and administrative aspects of society embedded with Rajasthan's history. She is honored with publishing research articles for esteemed journals and yearly proceedings on national and international levels. She has extended a major contribution to the bi-yearly magazine ‘INTACH’, involving writing articles and proof-editing of the journal. She has also actively organized conferences and workshops and also, chaired technical sessions.
