Dr. Tanzin Tandup is a Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, specializing in Buddhist Studies, Tibetan Buddhism, and Himalayan Ritual Traditions.

His research interests broadly encompass Himalayan studies, ritual performance, death rituals, and indigenous belief systems across the high-altitude Himalayan regions.

At IIAS, Dr. Tandup is currently undertaking a two-year fellowship project titled "Between the Human and Divine: A Study of Village Oracles in Spiti Valley."

Dr. Tandup earned his Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies from the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, where he previously served as a UGC-NET JRF Research Scholar. His doctoral thesis, "A Study on Tibetan Death Rituals in Ladakh and Spiti," examined the complex intersections of ritual practice, eschatology, and local traditions. Prior to his doctoral work, he completed his M.A. in Buddhist Studies at the University of Delhi, his B.A. in Public Administration from Government Degree College, Solan.
