Dr. Ravindra Nath Singh is retired as Professor from the Department of AIHC & Archaeology, Banaras Hindu University in 2021. Before joining as Professor, he held a post of Associate Professor of History of Science & Technology. Dr. Singh is a science graduate, did his MA and PhD in AIHC & Archaeology. In addition, he also did Diploma in Spectroscopy, Russian and in Yoga from BHU. During his more than four decades association with BHU, in addition to few books, published more than 200 research papers in national and International journals having more than 1000 citations. Recently Dr. Singh has been awarded ‘Careers360 Outstanding Faculty Research Awards 2023’ for arts, humanities, based on citations & h-Index in Scopus.

Dr. Singh has directed several archaeological excavations and explorations approved by the Archaeological Survey of India, Government of India including Excavations at Harappan sites: Alamgirpur-Meerut, Bulandkhera-GB Nagar, Masudpur-Hissar, Burj-Fatehabad, Bahola-Karnal, Khanak-Bhiwani, Lohari Ragho-Hissar, Dabli Vas Chugta-Hanumangarh, Ganeshwar-Sikar and a few others.

Dr. Singh is recipient of seven International Fellowships during his career: Indo-Soviet Cultural Exchange, Moscow (1986). Nehru Fellowship, London (1994), INSA- Royal Society Fellowship, Cambridge (2001), Smuts Commonwealth Fellowship, Cambridge (2009 & 2023) Cambridge Hamied Fellowship, Cambridge (2019) and Visiting Fellow at Magdalen College, Oxford University (2024). Dr. Singh has been involved in seven International Projects in collaboration with the University of Cambridge: UKIERI (2007-13), British Academy (2012-15) European Research Council (2015-20). DST-UKIERI (2017-20), TIGR2ESS (2020-21), MAHSA-ARCADIA (2020-29) and recently collaborating with the Seoul National University’s INDICA Project (2022-28). Dr. Singh is still associated with the BHU under the Institute of Eminence’s Faculty Incentive Program. Dr. Singh has been Chairman of Eco- Next Programme of DST, Govt. of India (2015-2018), Member of Standing Committee of the Central Advisory Board of Archaeology, ASI, Govt. of India (2018-2021). He has been Hon. Research Associate of McDonald Institute of Archaeological Research, Cambridge (2016-23). Recently Dr. Singh has been elected as Honorary Member of the SCR, Magdalen College Oxford University for a period of six years from October, 2024 to September, 2030.

Dr. Singh is an active field archaeologist and his primary research interests are archaeological sources for reconstruction of history. His PhD on the Archaeology & Technology of Ancient Indian Glasses and his Post-doctoral research as a Nehru Trust Fellow on the Scientific Studies of Ancient Indian Metals which have been published as monographs and well received by the academic communities. Dr. Singh associated with the University of Cambridge’s long-term projects: Investigations at The Indus Settlements of Northwest, India: Environmental Considerations and Mapping Archaeological Heritage of South Asia (MAHSA).
